WELCOME TO
AIP CERTIFIED COACH
AIP Certified Coach is the only practitioner training program educating healthcare providers in the implementation of the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), an evidence-based dietary and lifestyle protocol to help autoimmune patients reach their health goals. AIP has been the subject of medical research investigating efficacy for managing autoimmune conditions.
Since the program was created in 2017, over 800 practitioners from a diverse array of professional backgrounds have been trained and certified. Providers include (but are not limited to!) health coaches, nutritionists, bodyworkers, physical therapists, nurses, physician’s assistants, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, medical doctors, and researchers. These practitioners collectively serve countless thousands of autoimmune clients, but the need and demand for personalized autoimmune wellness coaching continues to grow.

THE HISTORY OF AIP CERTIFIED COACH
In 2017, after establishing themselves as leaders in the autoimmune community with busy private health coaching practices, Mickey Trescott and Angie Alt joined forces with best-selling author, medical researcher, and originator of the Autoimmune Protocol, Sarah Ballantyne, PhD.
At the time, Angie and Mickey were struggling to keep up with the demand for personalized AIP coaching, and they noticed the growing public need for all types of providers, not just health coaches, being able to integrate the Autoimmune Protocol into their work. The goal was to develop a training program that would educate all types of providers in the scientific foundations of the protocol, as well as first-hand clinical experience and knowledge gained from working with hundreds of individuals.
By 2022, the AIP Certified Coach community had grown to include over 750 coaches from across the healthcare spectrum. An online program since inception, the program has always been available to providers worldwide. Nearly half of certified providers reside outside of the US or Canada, with notable representation in Australia, the UK, Europe, and South America.
Types of providers include health coaching and nutritional specialties, like certified health coaches, nutritional therapy practitioners, nutritional consultants, and registered dieticians, as well as bodyworkers and fitness professionals, like massage therapists, physical therapists, and personal trainers. Natural and complementary providers like herbalists, acupuncturists, Chinese medical specialists, chiropractors, and naturopathic doctors also joined the community. Lastly, many conventional medicine providers, such as nurses, physician’s assistants, medical doctors, and researchers have taken the program and the alumni community truly reflects collaboration between natural and conventional systems.
Partnerships with medical research teams had yielded six published studies on the efficacy of the Autoimmune Protocol for various autoimmune conditions, including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
In 2023 Angie Alt stepped down from her work with AIP Certified Coach and Jaime Hartman was announced as the new co-teacher and partner for the program. Jaime brings expertise in educational psychology and instructional design, as well as a rich personal and professional history with AIP through her personal journey, her health coaching practice, and through her work with organizing the AIP Summit, an annual online event that has served over 15,000 people with accurate and free information about AIP implementation.
New collaborators Mickey Trescott and Jaime Hartman performed a ground-up remodel of the AIP Certified Coach practitioner training program in 2023. While the Autoimmune Protocol itself had not changed meaningfully since the program was created, the program was re-written and updated to include the medical study results and personalization insights gained since the program’s creation. In addition, guest lecturers who are experienced AIP Certified Coaches were brought on to teach on specialized topics like immunology, eating disorders, body inclusivity, occupational therapy, and cultural diversity.
The result is a fully refreshed program that serves to prepare and encourage the next generation of autoimmune protocol coaches, ready to empower their autoimmune clients.
