ABOUT THE CREATORS

Sarah Ballantyne, PhD. — I have a medical research background as a PhD in medical biophysics from Western University. I began using the Autoimmune Protocol on my own personal healing journey with lichen planus, psoriasis, Hashimoto’s disease, and fibromyalgia, which ultimately lead me down the road to researching, developing, and refining the protocol into what it is known as today. I’m the author of three best-selling books, The Paleo Approach, The Paleo Approach Cookbook and The Healing Kitchen, co-host The Paleo View Podcast, and founder of The Paleo Mom, a website that provides recipes and health information to 400,000+ users monthly. In 2014 I started The Paleo Mom Consulting, a virtual coaching service that offers 1:1 support to those who are seeking support on their wellness journeys.

Mickey Trescott, NTP — After achieving personal success using the Autoimmune Protocol to help manage my Hashimoto’s and celiac disease, I became a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association. I’m the author of The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook, co-author of The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook, co-host of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast and creator of the online cooking program AIP Batch Cook. In 2012 I founded Autoimmune-Paleo.com, which in January 2017 became AutoimmuneWellness.com and currently serves four million wellness-seekers annually. I’ve been working one-on-one with health coaching clients through The Paleo Mom Consulting since 2014, and I currently sit on the board of Hashimoto’s Awareness, a support and advocacy organization for those with autoimmune thyroid disease.

Angie Alt, NTC, CHC — After restoring my own health using the Autoimmune Protocol to help manage my celiac disease, endometriosis, and lichen sclerosis, I became a Nutritional Therapy Consultant certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association and a Certified Health Coach educated through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and certified through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I’m the author of The Alternative Autoimmune Cookbook, co-author of The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook, co-host of The Autoimmune Wellness Podcast and creator of the online group health coaching program, SAD to AIP in SIX. In 2016, I partnered with a doctor to run a clinical study on AIP. In 2015, I became Mickey’s partner, growing our website into AutoimmuneWellness.com in 2017 and serving millions of wellness-seekers annually. I’ve been working with individual health coaching clients through The Paleo Mom Consulting since 2014.

TESTIMONIALS

“The program is science-based, easy to follow and beneficial even for physicians.”
— Kaley Bourgeois, ND

“This invaluable experience has enriched my professional life, not only by gaining more knowledge as to how to approach the AIP diet with clients, but also with the talented colleagues and friends I have had the pleasure to connect with and share ideas with. I feel blessed to have been a part of this inaugural class as I feel our group will go on to make an important impact on the world by educating and helping people take their health into their own hands.”
— Tina Christoudias Spyrou, RD

“AIP Certified Coach was a valuable and enriching program, providing essential ongoing education for any health professional that embraces the idea that “food is medicine.” As a Certified AIP Coach, I feel more equipped to walk my clients through the hows and whys of autoimmunity, and to troubleshoot more complex situations. The handouts are well designed and thought out, and are worth the price of the course alone!”
— Ryan Monahan, FDN-P

“The training provided through the AIP Certified Coach program has given me the expertise, tools, and confidence to support my clients and empower them to take control of their own health journey. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity to study with three pioneers in the AIP movement and be able to draw upon the collective wisdom and insight of my classmates from around the world and across disciplines. As a brand new NTP, I feel like I am already light years ahead of my peers who haven’t had this training and am excited to start applying what I have learned immediately!”
— Jaime Hartman, NTP

The vast amount of resources, from client handouts to real-world troubleshooting advice, help me to support my clients through every step of the Autoimmune protocol. This program is the most extensive AIP training I have seen and I can't wait to bring this knowledge to the people who need it most.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I access the course materials?

+

Once your enrollment is approved, you will be granted access to the AIP Certified Coach website where you will be prompted to create a login. In addition, you will be added to a private discussion group on Facebook by a member of our team.

Each week, starting with the first day of the class schedule, a new set of materials (videos, transcripts, and handouts) will be unlocked for the entire class to move through at the same pace. An internet connection will be required to stream the videos, and they will not be available to download for offline use, due to the extremely large file sizes. Reading lists, transcripts, and handouts will all be available to download.

How much time is required weekly to complete the course on-time?

+

We have designed the program to meet the needs of busy professionals. Expect to devote approximately 4-5 hours to the program each week, with 2-3 hours of time spent watching video lectures, an hour of reading, and an hour of discussion time.

Who will be my instructors during this course?

+

Video and audio lectures through our online learning platform will be lead by Sarah Ballantyne, PhD, Mickey Trescott, NTP, and Angie Alt, NTC, CHC, who all collaborated to create this course together. Discussions and Q and A in the private Facebook community will be lead by both Mickey and Angie, along with one co-teacher who is an experienced AIP Certified Coach. Sarah will not be active in the Facebook community.

Do I need to purchase any materials or books to complete the course?

+

You will need to purchase two textbooks that will be required reading for the course - The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook and The Paleo Approach. Both purchases should set you back less than $50 on Amazon.com.

Is AIP Certified Coach worth the money?

+

AIP Certified Coach costs either $799 paid in one-payment or $999 paid in $333 installments. Opting for the one-time payment represents a 20% savings and works out to less than $100 per week. This is well below many other certification programs, which aren’t targeted to the autoimmune community or require time commitments that are often not possible for working professionals. Considering the growing autoimmune community and clients interested in working with coaches capable of leading them through the Autoimmune Protocol, AIP Certified Coach will be a worthwhile investment for you.

I’m a practitioner with autoimmune disease myself and I’ve been utilizing AIP for several years. What can AIP Certified Coach offer me that I don’t already know?

+

Personal experience with autoimmune disease and AIP is different than working with other diagnoses and the bio-individual concerns of your clients. Your unique journey alone isn’t enough to navigate the complexities of teaching others how to adopt this healing template.

As leading experts in this area, who have not only navigated the protocol ourselves, but who have also introduced this method of healing to a global audience and personally coached thousands of clients through the process, the benefit we bring to you as a student is that much of the experimental approach to coaching the protocol has been done for you. You can then leapfrog over common challenges we’ve encountered thousands of times instead of learning through trial and error.

Do I need to be present at a specific time for any scheduled presentations or calls?

+

No — AIP Certified Coach has a clear rhythm, but you aren’t tied to specific meeting times, webinars, or conference calls. Daily discussion prompts will be posted in the private Facebook group by a member of our team, and you can participate in those discussions as you have free time. During the final week, live-video case studies will be presented by your instructors, but these will be recorded and can be replayed if you are unable to view them live.

You will need to be available for 2 hours during a 3-day window at the end of the program to take the final exam. The test dates for the 2019 enrollment are March 21-23. You are permitted to take the exam at any time during this 3-day window.

What kind of technological requirements do I need to participate in AIP Certified Coach?

+

A stable internet connection with a minimum speed of 768 kb/seconds is necessary to stream video content from the site. All operating systems and browsers are supported, as long as they support Adobe Flash 9 or HTML5. To ensure best playback, we recommend your flash player is up to date - you can check on this by visiting the Adobe Flash Download Page.

To participate in the private discussion groups, you will need to have an account on Facebook. If you don’t have a Facebook account for any reason, consider making a profile in order to benefit from the discussion in this group. This will be how the instructors will be fielding your questions, and is an important piece.

In order to access the handouts and other materials, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader or another program that can access .pdf files.

What if I want to do AIP Certified Coach at my own pace?

+

We’ve designed AIP Certified Coach to be completed at your own pace week-to-week, but you will want to keep moving with the class schedule so you can get the most out of the discussions and Q and A in our private group on Facebook.

Should you get behind in the material for an unforeseen circumstance, we will consider allowing more time to complete the program on a case-by-case basis (with the understanding that the discussion and Q and A opportunities may be missed for these students). Ideally, students should only enroll in the program if they know they have 4-5 hours a week to devote to their studies.

When is the next time you will be offering AIP Certified Coach?

+

At this time, we have not finalized a future enrollment of AIP Certified Coach. It will likely be in 2020. If you want to be notified directly of future enrollments, please join our interest list.

What kind of practitioners can take AIP Certified Coach?

+

AIP Certified Coach is open to practitioners with existing certifications or licenses to work directly with clients or patients and who carry appropriate liability insurance. Health coaches, nutritional therapy practitioners or consultants, registered dietitians, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, and medical doctors (and more!) can all integrate this information into their practices. If you have a question about if your certification is covered, please contact us.

Before using the AIP Certified Coach mark, graduates will be required to show proof of certification or licensure, as well as proof of insurance for their practice. It should be noted that it is up to each individual to assess the laws in their state and determine their own legal scope of practice. AIP Certified Coach is for educational use only.

Does AIP Certified Coach enable me to practice nutrition directly with clients?

+

No, AIP Certified Coach is not a standalone certification that enables you to practice directly with clients. All students must come into the program with an existing certification in the coaching or medical fields that enables them to work with clients or patients.

Before using the AIP Certified Coach mark, graduates will be required to show proof of certification or licensure, as well as proof of insurance for their practice. It should be noted that it is up to each individual to assess the laws in their state and determine their own legal scope of practice. AIP Certified Coach is for educational use only.

Will this course teach me how to set up my practice as a provider?

+

This course is designed to teach you the detailed research and scientific basis for the Autoimmune Protocol, as well as, provide instruction on transitioning, troubleshooting, and personalizing techniques for your client population. Covering all the legal information required to set-up individual practices, from state-to-state, region-to-region, and country-to-country, is not possible for us to navigate. Additionally, we have students from a wide variety of base licensures and certifications, which makes it unrealistic for us to guide each person on the specifics of building his or her practice.

What are the requirements to being able to use the AIP Certified Coach mark and calling myself an AIP Certified Coach?

+

Students will need to complete all coursework (videos, quizzes, and participate in discussions), and pass a final exam. In addition, they will be required to show proof of certification or licensure, and proof of insurance for their practice.

Once all of this is completed, students can then sign the AIP Certified Coach Practitioner Agreement, which outlines the license and rules for using the mark. Once the agreement is signed, you can use the AIP Certified Coach mark on your marketing materials, use the title AIP Certified Coach, and be listed in our practitioner directory.

It should be noted that it is up to each individual to assess the laws in their state and determine their own legal scope of practice. AIP Certified Coach is for educational use only.

What if I am in the process of obtaining a license or certification that enables me to work directly with clients or patients?

+

If you are currently enrolled in a program that will grant you a license or certification to work directly with clients or patients, you may enroll in AIP Certified Coach, but you will not be able to sign the AIP Certified Coach Practitioner Agreement (a requirement for using the mark or title) until you can show proof of certification and insurance.

If you decide to wait until you graduate your program, we are happy to hold your certification for up to six months after our program ends.

Can I get CEUs for completing AIP Certified Coach?

+

Completing the AIP Certified Coach program earns NTP and NTC graduates 24 CEUs and NANP members 30 Cat I CEUs — that’s all of the credits needed for your bi-annual renewal through both NTA and NANP. We found that many of our past graduates, from varied backgrounds, were granted generous CEUS through their respective organizations. Please contact us if you’d like to inquire about them.

What is the payment policy for AIP Certified Coach?

+

The cost of the program is either one payment of $799 or three payments of $333 ($999 total). Payment is due either in full or with the first payment in the payment plan before a space in the program will be held for you. Payment may only be made using a credit or debit card.

What is the payment refund policy for AIP Certified Coach?

+

In the event of your absence or withdrawal from the program, for any reason, refunds will be give on the following terms:

1.  Prior to the program’s start date, a full refund will be provided.
2. Within fourteen days of the program’s start date, a full refund less a 15% administrative fee will be given.
3. After fourteen days from the program’s start date, no refunds will be given.

How long will I have access to the website, materials, and private Facebook discussion group?

+

Graduates will have access to the website for the duration of their enrollment and at least 3 months after the program ends. We recommend downloading transcripts and handout materials as the student progresses through the course.

The private Facebook discussion group will close at the end of each class rotation. Information shared there that students would like to access in the future should be saved ahead of time.

What is necessary to be listed in the AIP Certified Coach practitioner directory?

+

Once a graduate has signed the AIP Certified Coach agreement, they will be listed in our practitioner directory for one year. Going forward, graduates will be prompted to submit updated license information if expired, as well as proof of insurance annually. A small recertification fee ($35) will be due each year to cover administration and website costs. No CEUs will be required to recertify as an AIP Certified Coach, but we will continue to send graduates updates in science and research.

+
